This chapter describes the windows in the Windows menu. Dialogs are covered under their associated topics.
A LogDoor task displays its current configuration and processing state
in a task status window. This section describes the details of that window,
shown below in Figure 1.
Figure 1. Task Status Window
The upper part of the task status window consists of three sections displaying overall configuration and processing information, plus a summary graph. The lower part of the window is an item list containing summary access information for files and sites.
Processing - This section displays the current processing state of the task (waiting, processing, writing summaries, etc.), and the earliest and latest dates which the task has encountered in log entries which it has processed.
Input Log File - This section displays the pathname of the log file which the task has been configured to process, how much of that file has been processed to date, and the last line of the file which has been processed.
Output Files - This section displays the pathname of the folder into which the task will write its output files, plus the name format (including the suffix) and types of the files which the task is currently configured to write by default.
Activity Graph - This section graphs the number of hits and errors versus time, for the task as a whole. By default, the graph covers a twelve hour period, in five minute increments, but this is configurable (either through hitting the button to the left of the graph or through the Configure Status Window menu item). A thin, light gray vertical rule is displayed at day boundaries. Normally, the start and end dates represented by the graph are displayed. Clicking on an element of the graph causes the beginning and end dates and times represented by that element to be displayed, along with the number of hits and errors for that element. Clicking to the right or left of the graph causes the graph's labeling to revert to the overall time period of the graph. Note that errors also count as hits.
NOTE: An element labeled as representing, for example, 11:35 PM to 11:39 PM means it covers 11:35:00 PM to 11:39:59 PM.
Item List - This section provides an overall summary, by site, of the access information a task has processed. This display lists the number of hits, visits, bytes transferred and errors for each individual root-level site and file that the task has encountered (within a particular date range), plus totals for the task as a whole. The date range of the display can be configured using the popup menu at the top of that display. Access information can be displayed for the current or previous day, week (starting with Monday) or month, for the last 7, 10, 15 or 30 days, or to date since the task was started.
Note that there are two items in the list which do not correspond to actual sites or files:
The item list can also be sorted by item name, hits, visits, bytes transferred or errors. To sort the display, either click on the desired column in the status window or choose "Sort Status Window by" and then the column name, from the Windows menu. The column used for sorting is underlined at the top of the item list. To view a particular item's entry, type the first letter of the item name. The first entry beginning with that letter will be selected.
Double-clicking on an item, or on the "Totals" line, in the task status window, will bring up a window displaying that item's day-by-day processing totals, essentially equivalent to what would be written to the summary reports at that time. The window also displays a bar graph of the total number of hits to the item on a day-by-day basis, and the last several lines of the log file for that item (if the item is a site and a log file is being written for that site).
The task status window display is based upon the task's processing state information, as stored in the task file. Although this information is generally derived from the input log the task is currently processing, this will not always be the case. For instance, if you use one task to process a series of input files, and do not reset the processing summary data between each input file, the display will represent the summation of the data from all the input files. Alternately, if you reset the summary data in the middle of processing a log file, then the display will no longer represent the information from the entirety of that file.
To remove an item from the task status window, and from the state information associated with the task, select the item in the task status window and choose "Remove Item" from the Item submenu in the Task menu. The item will be removed from the window, and no future log files or reports for the item will be written (unless a valid access to the item is encountered during subsequent processing).
The task status window is refreshed on a periodic basis. If you wish to be sure that this window is up to date, choose "Refresh Status Window" from the Windows menu. If you do not want the task status window to be displayed at all, close the window by clicking the window's close box. The task will continue processing regardless of whether the task status window is displayed or not.
By default, the status window displays all sections described above, although it can be configured to display only some of those sections. To configure the status window, choose "Configure Status Window..." from the Windows menu. The "Configure Status Window" dialog appears as shown in Figure 2 below.
Figure 2. Configure Status Window Dialog
By checking a checkbox, a section is included in the status window. You can also choose the time scale for the activity graph.
LogDoor maintains a window displaying its recent processing activity. This window contains useful information about the LogDoor task's processing, such as files created, files opened, bytes read, input lines processed and checkpoints. This window is displayed and hidden by choosing "Activity Log" from the Windows menu.
If LogDoor is running on the same machine as the AppleShare IP Web server (version 5.0.2 or later), two additional menu items will be available in the Windows menu. These items, when selected from the menu, display information about plug-ins under AppleShare IP. You do not need to have a LogDoor task open to display these windows.
LogDoor's Plug-in Info Window presents a summary of all AppleShare IP plug-ins that were registered when the Web server was launched. The top section of the window lists all the plug-ins, and the bottom section lists all MIME types handled by each plug-in. All data in this window is set at the time the Web server is launched. This window is displayed and hidden by choosing "Plug-in Info" from the Windows menu. On non-AppleShare IP servers, this menu item will be grayed out.
LogDoor's Plug-in Log Window acts as a console for plug-ins running under AppleShare IP's Web server. This window is displayed and hidden by choosing "Plug-in Log" from the Windows menu. It is a "live" window; as plug-ins write information to the console, that information appears in this window. On non-AppleShare IP servers, this menu item will be grayed out. Information displayed in this window is written by AppleShare IP to a special log file, "Plug-in Log File," and read from that file by LogDoor.
